Being born and raised in Nebraska I think this map is quite funny. It has Nebraska being the heart and soul of the United States. Well actually it has it labeled as the United States. The KKK takes up most of the southeast then Florida is occupied by mostly Cubans (according to the map). I found it very interesting that most of the stuff posted on this map seemed to be stereo types of some kind.

I believe that they should continue to help the Sub-Saharan African countries. Maybe not as much as they have been, but they should continue to send some sort of aid. With the aid coming in hopefully someday they will be able to get up on their on two feet and function on their own. With that in place it would help further the United States trade and other countries. It would expand the trade market throughout the world. Then globalization would be greater and more abundent throughout the world.

On January 14th Tunisia's ex-President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali fled to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, after a week-long violent popular uprising against him. In Tunis many citizens were angry over corruption and unemployment, and they burned a train station to the ground on January 15th. Many shops were also looted. New leaders were sworn in on January 16th and began trying to restore order, but the protests sparked movements in Egypt and elsewhere in the region.

This map shows a overhead view of northern United States, Canada, Greenland and then Most of Russia. I never realized that if you would fly from Chicago to Moscow you would just fly directly north over the Artic Ocean and Greenland. I thought you would fly up through Alaska then into the Eastern tip of Russia. It is a cool perspective that I would of never realized without google earth.

I used the website http://www.drugs.com/opium.html look up most of my information. I also used the national geographic website that was posted in the topic of blog number 7. I found it very interesting that there is so much opium poppy seeds being grown in Afghanistan. In the province of Badakhshan 5 years ago almost 9,000 acres were being grown and now its just 1,500 being grown.
Opium is a substance found in the seeds of the opium poppy. Opium, which contains morphine, is extracted from the poppy seeds and used to produce heroin. Heroin is highly illegal and a growing problem throughout the United States.

Heroin is most often injected. It can also be snorted or smoked. Smoking and sniffing heroin do not produce a "rush" as quickly or as intensely as injection. No matter the intake of the drug it is a very addictive bad habit.

A news article called “Great Firewall of China” by Ben Elgin and Bruce Einhorn was written a little over two months ago talking about the firewall that China currently has. Skype wanted to enter China and talk with clients. They were told that in order to do so that they needed to filter certain words that might be offensive to the Beijing government. Phrases such as “Falun Gong” and “Dalai Lama” are filtered over their Skype sessions. Skype knew that there was no budging the Chinese Government so they gave in

This is an image of the internet users worldwide in 2002. It’s very obvious that the United States, China, and Japan are among the highest internet users. Whether they are "gaming" or actually using it for more useful services such as e-mail or other types of communication, other countries aren't as privileged or just don’t have the luxury that we do.
The internet helps globalization in many ways. A very good specific example is when people place orders over the internet. Phone calls have become much less important and e-mail is the new thing to do. That is why the United States is a major trade partner with Japan and China. The internet has a major role in communication and the connectedness of many countries both big and small.

Over the past couple of weeks we have been watching “Slumdog Millionaire.” Throughout the movie I noticed many things that caught my eye. A few of them were the slums they were living in and also much of the clothing that was being worn.
The women would many times be wearing what is called a Saree (many different spellings). A Saree is a strip of unstitched cloth, ranging from four to nine meters in length that is draped over the body in various styles. It is usually worn around the waist with one end over the shoulder. It is usually worn with another blouse called a choli or ravika.
The Saree has been around in India for many years. Many women love it so much because it can be worn in so many various styles and colors. It looks good on every woman in India. It is considered to be one of the most graceful and ethnic attires.

In this article it talks about how hot it was on Australia day this year. At 2 PM in Sydney it had reached 31 degrees Celsius or 87.8 degrees Fahrenheit. It was the second hottest Australian Day since 1991. In Penrith it was suppose to get 42 degrees Celsius or 107.6 degrees Fahrenheit.
On page 636 in our textbook it talks about global warming in the Oceania region. Australia suffers from various droughts and wildfires. A major contribution to New Zealand’s greenhouse pollution is the methane from the country’s large livestock population. The Pacific Islands have emphasized on how to adapt to the climate change rather than on getting rid of the carbon emissions.
A 20 year old Narre Warren man and his 65 year old father were working together to smuggle in Afghans and Pakistanis to Australia from Indonesia. The father mysteriously died months after they were arrested. The son was sentenced to 9 months in prison.
On pages 636-637 in the textbook it explains how modern population patterns reflect the indigenous and European settlement. In countries such as Australia, New Zealand, and the Hawaiian Islands, Anglo-European migration has contributed to the concentration and distribution of today’s population.
