Blog Topic 7

I used the website http://www.drugs.com/opium.html look up most of my information. I also used the national geographic website that was posted in the topic of blog number 7. I  found it very interesting that there is so much opium poppy seeds being grown in Afghanistan.  In the province of Badakhshan 5 years ago almost 9,000 acres were being grown and now its just 1,500 being grown.
Opium is a substance found in the seeds of the opium poppy. Opium, which contains morphine, is extracted from the poppy seeds and used to produce heroin. Heroin is highly illegal and a growing problem throughout the United States.
Heroin is most often injected. It can also be snorted or smoked. Smoking and sniffing heroin do not produce a "rush" as quickly or as intensely as injection. No matter the intake of the drug it is a very addictive bad habit.
